Clearwater Beach's food scene is Gulf seafood-first, beachside-casual, and shockingly consistent. You don't need a reservation, dress codes are loose, and the best spots are open year-round. Here's our working list of the restaurants locals actually recommend — organized by what you're in the mood for.
The Legends (Try at Least Once)
Frenchy's
Four locations on Clearwater Beach. The grouper sandwich capital of Florida since 1981. Start at Frenchy's Rockaway Grill for the beach-view deck, or Frenchy's Café for the shortest wait. Order the grouper blackened, add She-Crab soup.
Palm Pavilion Beachside Grill & Bar
10 Bay Esplanade. The only restaurant on the beach — tables on the sand, toes-in-the-water dining. Gulf-caught seafood, classic beach-bar menu, live music. The quintessential Clearwater Beach dinner.
Crabby's Bar & Grill on the Pass
333 S. Gulfview Blvd. Huge menu — grouper, crab, shrimp, burgers, pasta. Rooftop bar on top with the best sunset view on Beach Walk. Live music most nights. Family-friendly downstairs, adult scene upstairs.
Seafood & Steakhouse Picks
Bob Heilman's Beachcomber
447 Mandalay Ave. Old-school fine dining. Been here since 1948. Famous for back-to-the-farm fried chicken and prime rib. Dress a little nicer.
Island Way Grill
Island Estates. A short drive from the beach, worth it. Sushi, steak, fresh Gulf fish. Beautiful waterfront view. Sunday brunch is a locals' favorite.
Marina Cantina
25 Causeway Blvd (at the marina). Rooftop Tex-Mex with a massive outdoor patio. Great margaritas, easy dinner before or after a dolphin tour.

Pro Tips
- Most beachfront spots don't take reservations — put your name on the waitlist and walk the beach
- Call ahead after 5 PM on weekends — wait times routinely pass an hour
- Happy hour at most rooftop bars runs 4–6 PM — a better deal than dinner
- Sunday brunch at Frenchy's Saltwater Café or Island Way Grill is a perfect first-morning activity
- Tip 20%+ — servers depend on it and service quality reflects it
If you only have time for one meal: Frenchy's Rockaway, grouper sandwich blackened, She-Crab soup, cold beer, sunset. You'll tell your friends about it when you get home.Back to Food & Dining
