The Sugar Sand Festival is Clearwater Beach's signature annual event — a three-week, outdoor sand sculpture exhibition that draws more than 500,000 visitors each spring. It's one of the largest sand sculpting festivals in the United States and one of the reasons to time a Clearwater Beach trip for late April or early May.
What Is the Sugar Sand Festival?
A team of 15–20 international sand sculptors spend two weeks carving massive sculptures from 1,000+ tons of sand right on the beach next to Pier 60. The sculptures are themed each year (past themes: space, mythology, Hollywood, world cultures). Once the sculptures are complete, the festival opens to the public for public viewing.
