Clearwater Beach is designed for walking. Flat terrain, short distances, wide sidewalks, a car-free promenade, and a causeway with a dedicated pedestrian lane. Most visitors park once and walk everywhere. Here's where to go.
1. Beach Walk Promenade (Easy · 15–25 min)
- Distance: about 1 mile each way, 2 total
- Surface: paved, palm-lined, pedestrian-only
- From/To: Pier 60 → Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach
- Accessibility: wheelchair/stroller friendly throughout
Clearwater Beach's signature walk. Gulf views the whole way, palm trees, public art, splash fountains, benches every 100 feet. Safe, lit at night, and packed with restaurants and shops along the route. This is the walk most visitors take.
2. Full Beach-to-Beach Walk (Moderate · 45–60 min)
- Distance: 2–3 miles
- Surface: Beach Walk + sidewalks
- Route: start at Pier 60, walk south through Beach Walk, continue on sidewalks through Sand Key, back via Gulf Blvd
3. Memorial Causeway Walk (Moderate · 3 miles)
- Distance: 1.5 miles each way over the bridge
- Surface: paved pedestrian lane
- Elevation: gentle climb over the bridge (mild)
- Views: panoramic — Clearwater Harbor to the south, Island Estates below, downtown Clearwater east
- Best time: sunrise or sunset
4. Sand Key Park Boardwalk (Easy · 1 mile)
- Distance: ~1 mile around the park
- Surface: boardwalks + paved paths
- Parking: $5/day at Sand Key Park
5. Beach Barefoot Walk (Easy · variable)
- Distance: 2–6 miles depending on how far you go
- Surface: hard-packed sand at the water's edge
- Best time: low tide (sand is firmer)
Walking barefoot on the wet sand is one of Florida's simplest pleasures. Start at Pier 60, head south or north, turn around when you're ready. The sand is soft and cool in the morning, but hot after noon in summer — bring sandals for breaks.
6. Downtown Clearwater Walk (Moderate · 4 miles round trip)
- Distance: 2 miles each way
- Route: cross Memorial Causeway, walk to Coachman Park on the downtown waterfront
- Return options: walk back, or take the Jolley Trolley ($2.25)
Good morning walk with a coffee or brunch stop at Coachman Park. The trolley ride back is part of the charm.
7. Caladesi Nature Walk (Half-day · variable)
- Distance: 3-mile Hammock Trail loop on Caladesi Island
- Access: ferry from Honeymoon Island (~$20 adult round trip)
- Surface: sand + dirt trail through slash pines
Pro Tips
- Walk sunrise or sunset — midday summer heat is brutal and makes even easy walks tough
- Hydrate — carry water everywhere, water fountains at Pier 60 Park and midway down Beach Walk
- Use sunscreen even on cloudy days — Gulf reflects UV
- Wear comfortable shoes — sandals for short walks, closed sneakers for 2+ miles
- Bug spray at dawn/dusk — mosquitoes on Causeway and near Caladesi
Accessibility
Clearwater Beach is one of the more accessible Gulf beaches. Beach Walk promenade, Pier 60 Park, the Memorial Causeway pedestrian lane, and Sand Key Park are all wheelchair/stroller friendly. Beach wheelchairs (with balloon tires for sand) are available free at Pier 60 Lifeguard Station — first come, first served.
Best walking evening: start at Pier 60 around 5 PM. Walk south along Beach Walk, stop at Crabby's rooftop for a drink, continue to the Hyatt, turn around. You'll pass the Sunset Festival on your return walk. Perfect 90-minute stroll.Back to Recreation
