Clearwater Beach is one of the best beach towns in Florida for cycling. The island is flat, just three miles long, and connected to a world-class regional trail network. Bike rentals are cheap, available all over, and significantly faster than driving on busy days.

Best Routes

1. Beach Walk (Easy, 2 miles round trip)

The paved promenade from Pier 60 south to the Hyatt. Separated from traffic, palm-lined, Gulf views the whole way. Perfect for casual cruising with kids or with drinks at stops along the way.

2. Clearwater Beach Loop (3 miles)

Ride the perimeter of the beach island — Mandalay north, loop through Acacia, back south on Gulfview. Quiet residential blocks, Gulf views, about 20 minutes.

3. Memorial Causeway Bike Path (3 miles)

Dedicated bike lane across the causeway to mainland Clearwater. Gorgeous views of the harbor, pelicans, and sunrise if you go early. Careful crossing at the intersections.

4. The Pinellas Trail (Serious Riders)

Start at Clearwater Beach, ride across the causeway, pick up the Pinellas Trail — a 50+ mile paved rail-to-trail system. You can ride north to Dunedin (~12 miles) for lunch at the brewery, or south all the way to St. Petersburg (~30 miles). Florida's premier bike trail.

5. Sand Key Loop (5 miles)

Cross the Clearwater Pass bridge onto Sand Key, loop Sand Key Park, ride through the residential Sand Key area. Quiet, scenic, waterfront.

Safety Tips

Why Bike Over Drive?

Families with Kids

Many rental places offer surrey bikes (4-person pedal cars with canopy) or trail-a-bike attachments for young kids. The family-friendly route: Beach Walk promenade + stops at the Pier 60 splash pad + ice cream at Camille's. Perfect 2-hour family outing.

Best bike move: rent a cruiser in the morning, ride the Beach Walk promenade down to breakfast, cruise Sand Key Park, come back up Mandalay for lunch at Frenchy's. Zero driving, zero parking stress, actual exercise.
